Council has a policy for the approval and placement of mobile and sandwich board signs, temporary articles and displays (e.g. merchandise, clothes racks, pot plants, children's rides), and entertainment (buskers) on public land such as footpaths and road reserves. The policy applies to land that is, or is immediately adjacent to land zoned 3(a) Business, 3(b) (Special Development), 2(V) Village and 4(a) Industrial or commercial uses in any zone. Council has developed a separate policy for footway restaurants (outdoor dining).
Council's policy is aimed to provide safe access along footways for all users, especially visually and physically impaired persons, while still permitting use of public land for promotion of business product and services.
