Mission

Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre exists to provide a modern, high quality auction selling centre for the benefit of producers in North East NSW.

Vision

In the future, Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre will be one of the premier Saleyards in North East NSW, a busy and active commercial centre, and the place of choice for vendors, buyers and agents.

Background and Profile

Construction of the facility began in 1968 by Nymboida Shire Council and opened in 1970. The facility was the first on the North Coast to install live weight scales, which were converted to computerised operation in 1982. At this time the ring building was also extended and other modifications and improvements have followed including visual display units, hydraulic lift gates, new canteen building and eating area and new offices for use by selling agent’s staff. Significant investment in a new effluent treatment system has received recognition through innovation and excellence awards.

National Livestock Identification System (NLIS)

Performance reports indicate Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre consistently exceeds state average regarding compliance and continuously strives to improve.

Management

The Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Center is owned and operated by the Clarence Valley Council. Revenue raised through the saleyard is reinvested to improve infrastructure and maintain health and safety, animal welfare and Environmental protection compliance.

Throughput

In 2015/16 Financial Year, the Centre sold a total of 48,025 head of cattle and maintained its ranking on the National Livestock Reporting Service Saleyard Survey at number 12.  Over the same period, 45 NSW Saleyard Operators sold a total of 1,717,398 head.

The current value of the stock throughput at the Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre exceeds $43 million annually.
