Disposal of community sharps

Clarence Valley Council and the North Coast Area Health Service have set up a service to make disposing of community sharps safe and convenient.

Safe and convenient options

Every day in the Northern Rivers Area there are thousands of people using needles, syringes and finger prick lancets at home to treat medical conditions, such as diabetes, cancer or multiple sclerosis.

Clarence Valley Council and the North Coast Area Health Service have set up a service to make disposing of community sharps safe and convenient.

You can now take your sharps to participating pharmacies and designated health sites for disposal.

Community sharps are needles, syringes and lancets used outside the normal clinical setting of hospitals and doctor's surgeries.

It is important that sharps are disposed of safely.

Sharps must be packaged in a strong, sealed container, such as a plastic milk or soft drink container, before taking them for disposal

Sharps are not recyclable and therefore must never be placed in recycling bins
