Affordable housing - Council's focus
Find out about how we are researching and developing strategies to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Clarence Valley.
Housing affordability is a significant and increasing problem in all the major cities, on the North Coast of NSW and in Australia generally. Clarence Valley Council has taken an active role in addressing the problem by employing a Community Development Officer - Affordable Housing to research and develop strategies to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Clarence Valley.
Affordable housing advisory committee
We have established an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee that has brought together key stakeholders who have expertise or an interest in housing to develop the Clarence Valley Affordable Housing Strategy and now oversee the implementation of the Strategy. The committee meets quarterly and is made up of local stakeholders. Meetings are open to the public.

Affordable housing strategy and policy
Council has also adopted an Affordable Housing Strategy and an Affordable Housing Policy to ensure that housing is planned for the future and that a range of affordable housing options are created now and into the future as our community grows. The strategy evolved from a housing needs analysis that identified the housing issues in the Clarence Valley that were then prioritised by the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee for inclusion in the strategy. These documents can be downloaded by clicking on the following links:

Adaptable housing guidelines
The Adaptable Housing Guidelines contain principles and design features that relate to adaptable and flexible housing to meet the changing housing needs of the local community. Adaptable housing is designed to be useable by people with changing physical needs. Flexible housing is designed to adapt to the changing needs of the household over time.
