Local Control Authorities
Are responsible for controlling noxious weeds and administering the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 in their areas. Council's duties include enforcing the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 by:

Controlling declared weeds on Council managed lands

Conducting inspections to ascertain levels of Noxious Weeds

Report to council and various committees

Serve notices, fines and infringements
Public Authorities
Are responsible for: Controlling noxious weeds on land under their control and consist of:

Land-holders or occupiers
Are responsible for noxious weed control on the occupier of the land, who may or may not be the owner of the land. Occupiers of land must take whatever actions are required to control noxious weeds on the land they occupy.

Being aware of weeds declared noxious in their area

Notifying council of infestations where appropriate

Undertaking a management program for any noxious weeds

Preventing the spread of noxious weeds.
