Waste and wastewater management requirements

When determining any development application, we must ensure the environmental and economic impacts of waste from development can be managed.

Our Waste Not Development Control Policy aims to minimise the generation of construction and demolition waste, and facilitate ongoing waste management practices. This policy requires the submission of a Waste Management Plan (WMP) when lodging a development application.

Note: Minor construction projects and development less than 50m2 are exempt from these requirements.

Onsite wastewater management

The Clarence Valley Council LGA covers approximately 10,500 square kilometres and contains approximately 9,500 onsite wastewater management systems. This area is one of the largest regional LGAs in NSW and includes unsewered villages and rural settlements from the hinterland to the coast.

The Onsite Wastewater Management Strategy (2019)(PDF, 491KB) aims to provide a document which will provide consistency for managing existing and new on-site wastewater systems in the Clarence Valley, now and into the future.
