Petitions

We accept written petitions from people that have a direct interest in the Clarence Valley Local Government Area, such as residents, landowners, and business owners.

Guidelines for petitioning Council

Petitions must be on paper and include the following:

  • The subject of the petition
  • Identification of the principal petitioner
  • Name, address, phone number or email address, and signatures in original writing of each petitioners
  • Petitions  should  be  prepared on the form(PDF, 186KB) prescribed

The subject of the petition must be limited to items Council has responsibility or control over. If it relates to a matter we have no responsibility or influence over we will return the petition to the principal petitioner and, where possible, provide information as to where the petition should be re-directed.

Petitions that are vexatious, abusive, propose unlawful action, or are otherwise inappropriate will not be considered.

If a report on the subject matter of the petition has already been prepared the petition will be included as an attachment. If no report has been prepared, we'll prepare one and present it to the relevant Committee.

To avoid breaches of the privacy legislation, most petitions will not be included in the attachments to the business paper, but tabled at council meetings.

Where a petition is provided in response to planning proposals or development applications on public exhibition, any submission made (including personal information) may be made publicly available and may be included in Council's business paper and on its website. If you don't want your submission to be made publicly available you must provide Council with written reasons for this. Anonymous submissions will not be considered.
