Clarence Valley Council has a strong commitment to providing local students with opportunities for practical experience in line with their course of study or to assist them in determining a career path.
Council sees it as a valuable contribution to the community, schools and students and will endeavour to make student placements useful and professional.
Council endeavours to accommodate as many students as possible but is unable to guarantee that all or any applicants will be placed.
Verbal requests from high school students, parent/guardians or careers advisors will not be accepted.
Council will advise students, through their school or TAFE, details of student intakes, application cut off dates and other requirements.
All applications from students must be in writing through the relevant school, TAFE or in the case of VET students from the Local Community Partnership Provider (Connect Northern Rivers) using the Council application form.
The relevant school or TAFE will be advised of the successful students and will be required to liaise with the students about their placement. The student must contact their Council placement supervisor at least one week prior to the placement beginning to organise details of their placement.
All requests from University or College students must be in writing using the Council application form and be submitted with a letter from the University/College approving the work experience request and providing evidence of current insurance coverage.
Council will advise students directly of the success of their application. The student must make contact with the Council placement supervisor at least one week prior to the placement beginning to organise details of the placement.
University and College students undertaking placement in a child related field will be required to complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration on commencement of the work experience.
