Industry forum to discuss future of live music in the Clarence Valley
What does a flourishing live music scene look like in the Clarence Valley?
Responses to this question will be discussed at the LIVE AND LOCAL Industry Forum to be held at Grafton Regional Gallery this Thursday, 24 March from 5.30pm – all interested parties welcome.
Program coordinator, Phil Nicholas of Events Delivered said, “This is a chance for musicians, promoters, Council representatives and owners of business premises to debate this question and suggest ways we can collectively support growth in the industry.”
“Over the past few months, a working group consisting of local musicians and venue owners has met to discuss issues and opportunities facing the local live music scene.”
“Various themes have arisen, including a desire expressed by young musicians for accessible, affordable rehearsal space, encouraging better knowledge of minimum award rates for musicians, to navigating regulations surrounding al fresco dining, alcohol licences and presenting live music in non-traditional music venues."
The forum will help inform the writing of a Live Music Action Plan for the Clarence Valley and will be hosted by representatives from the Live Music Office – Project Officer Lucy Joseph and planning and regulation reform expert John Wardle.
This meeting is the final public component in the Live and Local program. Three recorded professional development webinars, featuring an artist in conversation, an in-depth chat with a top Australia booking agent and a session with an industry veteran artist manager and publicist, have been archived on the Live and Local website as a resource for Clarence Valley musicians. And last month, 30 acts performed gigs at two Live and Local micro-festivals across seven venues in Grafton and Yamba.
The Live and Local initiative is jointly funded by the Live Music Office and Clarence Valley Council.
Drinks and nibbles from 5.30pm, forum discussion from 6 - 8pm. RSVP via the website to help us gauge numbers for catering purposes: https://www.eventsdelivered.com.au/live-local Zoom call in possible, although participation will be restricted to listening only.
