Shannon Creek Dam

The 30,000 megalitre Shannon Creek Dam west of Coutts Crossing supplies water to both the Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour regions. 

Classified as an off-river storage reservoir, it sources water from the Nymboida River and is designed to be used during dry periods to provide water security. It also reduces the impact of water extraction from the Orara and Nymboida Rivers during low flows. 

Disabled car parking is available, with wheelchair access to most areas. Because you are visiting a water supply catchment area where our drinking water is stored, please: 

  • No lighting of fires
  • No camping
  • No fishing
  • No swimming
  • No boating
  • No pets
  • Please do NOT feed the wildlife
  • Please use rubbish bins provided or take your rubbish with you (no-one likes to visit a littered site)
  • Please consider neighbours and residents in the surrounding communities when travelling to and from Shannon Creek Dam
 
To get to Shannon Creek Dam 
  1. Follow Armidale Road towards the village of Coutts Crossing. Just before entering Coutts Crossing, take the first right onto Geregarow Road.

  2. Continue along Geregarow Road until you see the signs for Shannon Creek Dam and turn left into Shannondale Road (nearly 5km).

  3. Follow Shannondale Road through the gates of Shannon Creek Dam. Please watch for wildlife along this road.

  4. Drive up to the picnic area and the viewing area at the top of the Dam wall.
