This document provides an overview of Clarence Valley Council’s good governance practices. It informs our compliance with governance responsibilities as required under legislation, principally the Local Government Act 1993. Council encourages participation in good governance.
There are now three ways you can access council information: Open Access Information, Request for Information Form and Formal Access (GIPA Formal Access Request Form).
Councils develop policies and procedures to guide their functions and responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1993 and other legislation that they are required to administer. This is to ensure lawful, prudent, transparent and accountable practices as well as to provide strong and sustainable services to their local community.
Council members and management staff are required to disclose any interest that may adversely affect their impartiality in matters discussed at council or committee meetings. Council's procedures for Disclosures of Interest are available here.

Resumption of land by Council is generally a last resort taken when all other avenues of acquiring the land have been exhausted, or where the land being acquired is Crown land.
The Statement of Business Ethics provides the ethical standards for all Council officers (Councillors; staff) and all stakeholders (customers; contractors) particularly as they pertain to commercial operations (e.g., value; impartiality, and fairness).
