Report on the 2021 Local Government Election
The 2021 Local Government Election
On 4 December 2021 Clarence Valley Council held its local government election. This election was unusual in that it was postponed twice—first from September 2020 to September 2021, then to 4 December, 2021. Both postponement decisions were based on the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The NSW Electoral Commission was contracted to conduct the election for Council.
Section 393A of the Local Government Act 1993 requires that within 6 months after the declaration of an election, the General Manager must provide the Minister with a written report and that the Report must be displayed on Council’s website. The Report was tabled as ITEM 07.22119 at the Ordinary Council Meeting 28 June 2022. The report provides an overview of details such as:
- The total cost of the election to Council, inclusive of Council staff time; outlays for venues, election officials and officers, IT support, etc. - $413,826.00;
- The number of voting booths;
- The number of electors;
Details are available in the Report, available below.
