Clarence Valley Council has secured external funding to upgrade four sports facilities within our Local Government Area. With the support of the NSW Government we are pleased to advise that the following locations will benefit from construction activities targeted at providing more resilient infrastructure:

  • Rushforth Park, South Grafton
  • Barnier Park, Junction Hill
  • Arena One, Hawthorne Rodeo Park, South Grafton
  • Yamba Rugby League Field, Ngayundi Sports Complex, Yamba
What's happening?

We will install subsoil and surface drainage to enable sports to return to play as soon as possible following severe weather events.

In July a detailed design was completed by a local supplier Bridge Knowledge Pty Ltd. In August a construction contract was awarded to a local supplier Ledonnes Construction Pty Ltd.

What are the benefits?

Rushforth Park Field Improvements

Field 1 and Field 2 are targeted for the installation of subsoil drainage and sand slotting to remove water from the playing field following wet weather events.

The clubhouse drainage system will be extended to the external open swale drains to reduce pooling around the facility.

Some additional minor adjustments include filling areas that are currently pooling water around the targeted fields.

Barnier Park Field Improvements

Field 1 will benefit from the installation of subsoil drainage and sand slotting to remove water from the playing field following wet weather events.

Terry West Field has existing subsoil drainage, which will be assessed, some adjustments made to the playing surface to level it and installation of sand slotting where required.

Yamba Rugby League Field Improvements

The rugby league field at Ngayundi Sports Complex in Yamba will benefit from drainage installation around in front of the clubhouse as well as the southern end of the playing field.

Construction activities will include sand slotting to remove the surface water from the site and channel it to the subsoil drainage on the outside of the field.

Hawthorne Rodeo Park Arena One & Drainage Improvements

Arena One will have the surface stripped back to the subgrade for the constructor to level and allow channelling of the water to the western side of the arena. A subsoil drainage system will be installed outside the arena to capture the runoff, that then links into under road drainage. The existing surface will then be reinstated.

Additional works will incorporate clearing the existing swale drainage system and upgrading under road drainage, to remove pooling water from the arena.

User groups will be engaged before construction to discuss the project scope, the designs are based on civil engineering standards and are produced to provide the maximum benefit with the available funding. The contractor has been selected based on their, methodology and previous experience completing this type of work.

Ledonne Constructions Pty Ltd have previous experience at several sporting facilities in the Clarence Valley including, Wherrett Park,Maclean, Yamba Oval, Barnier Park Junction Hill, and Coutts Crossing Golf Coarse that included Sand Slotting, Irrigation and Subsoil drainage.
