Laura Black - General Manager

While I was born and spent my formative years in cities, I love the Clarence Valley.

Walking is my thing, and I love where I live because I can walk for hours and never be far from the water. I love the towns and villages of this region too; there are so many fantastic eateries.

Working in senior management in a regional council brings with the role great diversity and insight - no two days are the same and I love this aspect of my job.

My career hasn’t always been local government though. Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences supported my early career focussing on vulnerable communities, in particular families experiencing violence and young people experiencing homelessness.

I also have tertiary qualifications in Planning and Business Administration and worked for Housing NSW for a while, implementing the Community Renewal Schemes in housing estates.

It was my early career path that influenced my move to local government, as it also fulfilled my deep desire to make a difference in community.

I feel quite strongly about this, so my role as the General Manager is a real privilege. With financial sustainability under control, the organisation is on the cusp of exciting change that will result in tangible community benefit.

I have managed and provided leadership to several portfolios here and in previous roles including corporate and governance support services.

I’m proud of the management team we now have, it’s a team of passionate and committed people with a wealth of experience committed to making a difference.
