This National Recycling Week, November 8-14, get ready to lift the lid on your recycling and test your trivia knowledge.

National Recycling Week is a time to celebrate our #RecycleRight achievements, brush up on our recycling skills and dispel some of the uncertainty around what we can recycle and where it’s going.

Clarence Valley Council’s Environment Education Officer Suzanne Lynch said recycling could be confusing, given the ever-changing nature of the industry.

“What we can recycle and where it is processed relies on the existence and profitability of manufacturing companies that are able to use our recycled content,” Ms Lynch said.

“It's important for our community to know that our recycling facilities have made some great connections to process and use recyclables right here in Australia

“For instance, the plastic bottles and containers we put into our recycling bins are sent from our MRF - Materials Recycling Facility to Kangaroo Plastics in Melbourne, where they are sorted and granulated, ready for use in manufacture.”

So, when it comes to what we do as a community, how can we ensure our recycling information is up to date?

North East Waste Education Coordinator Linda Tohver thinks it’s time to think outside the box and have a little fun brushing up on our recycling skills.

“If you love a good trivia challenge or consider yourself a bit of a waste and recycling fan, then get ready to have your brain teased with our National Recycling Week inspired trivia night,” Ms Tohver said.

Hosted by Wipe Out Waste expert Reece Orse the event will be run via Zoom on Wednesday 10 November, 6.30-7.30pm.

Whether you choose to fly solo or get a team of family and friends together, participants should be prepared for laughs and the possibility of winning some great sustainable prizes, all in the comfort of your own home.
