Yamba's CBD Streetscape Upgrades
Published on 30 April 2025
Clarence Valley Council, in collaboration with the Yamba Community Improvement Districts (YCID) Committee, is excited to announce the commencement of physical works as part of the Yamba Community Improvement District Pilot Program.
Proudly funded by the NSW Government under the Community Improvement District Pilot Program, the YCID initiative is to deliver vibrant streetscape upgrades, improved public amenities and a range of creative public artworks, all aimed at enhancing the charm and liveability of the Yamba CBD.
Installation of the physical components is set to begin this week, with key features including:
- Enhanced shade areas: Three Tristaniopsis laurina ‘Luscious’ trees will be planted on the north-eastern side of Coldstream Street, accompanied by public seating beneath each tree – creating welcoming spots to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
- A Sheltered bike bay and drinking fountain: A currently underutilised corner of Wooli and Yamba Streets will be revitalised with new bike rails, a shaded shelter, and a water drinking fountain, supporting active transport and community comfort.
- New bus shelters and crosswalk upgrades: Additional civic works include upgraded bus shelters and refreshed pedestrian crossings across key CBD streets.
- Public art installations: The CBD will soon feature interpretive hardwood Story Posts (pictured above) inspired by Yaegl Country and Yamba’s natural beauty, a beautified NBN meter box, and a new destination mural (artist submissions now open).
- Relocated community noticeboard: For better visibility and accessibility, the public noticeboard will move to the south-western end of Coldstream Street.
- Three-phase power for events: Coldstream Street will be equipped with 3-phase power outlets to reduce the need for generators and support future community events and ambient lighting installations.
These improvements will coincide with Yamba Bird Song, a community celebration on Saturday 24 May 2025, bringing together music, food, fashion, and fun in the heart of town. The event will also showcase the new enhancements and artworks that reflect Yamba’s vibrant spirit and strong sense of place.
Clarence Valley Mayor Ray Smith said the works mark a major step forward in Council’s commitment to place-based revitalisation.
“These initiatives, developed hand-in-hand with the community, are all about celebrating what makes Yamba special – our connection to nature, our creative energy, and the welcoming spirit of our town centre,” Cr Smith said.
The YCID project is proudly delivered by the Clarence Valley Council and the Yamba Community Improvement Districts Steering Committee, with the support of Transport for NSW as part of the Community Improvement District Pilot Program.
