Clarence Valley Council has developed the draft Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre Future Options Plan to guide the long-term direction, operation, and investment priorities for the saleyards facility.
The draft Plan explores a range of future options for the site and provides a strategic framework to support informed decision-making around the ongoing sustainability, use, and management of the facility.
The draft Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre Future Options Plan has been developed through consultation and technical assessment, including:
- review of the current operations, infrastructure, financial performance, and market position of the saleyards
- stakeholder engagement with agents, producers, transport operators, users, and industry representatives
- analysis of livestock trends, regional competition, and future industry challenges and opportunities
- assessment of asset condition, compliance requirements, and future capital investment needs
- consideration of a range of operational and strategic options for the future of the site.
At its meeting on 21 May 2026, Council resolved to place the draft Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre Future Options Plan on public exhibition and endorse consideration of the below changes to the Grafton Saleyards Fees & Charges following public exhibition and final adoption of the Plan by Council. As described in the draft Plan, these proposed fee changes are designed to help ensure the Grafton Saleyards can operate independently and sustainably, covering the full cost of running the facility and enabling critical capital renewal and upgrade works into the future.
