Fixing Country Bridges

Council secured a combined $46 million under Rounds 1 and 2 of the NSW Government Fixing Country Bridges Program. This funding is allowing us to replace 36 timber bridges with safer, and more resilient concrete structures.

Due to the large quantity of concurrent works to be delivered by the program deadlines the bridges are being constructed by a combination of Council’s bridge crews and Contractors.

Under construction

Round 1

Billys Creek Bridge - Armidale Road, Billys Creek

  • Bridge being built off line.
  • Piles, piers, abutments and headstocks completed, planks and bridge barriers to be installed by August. Bridge approaches, roadworks and road barriers by early October. The new bridge is expected to be open to traffic in mid October, followed by demolition of the old timber bridge.

Round 2A

Bluff Bridge – Orara Way, Lanitza

  • Contractor commenced on site in late January 2025.
  •  Piles and piers completed, forming new bridge abutments, headstocks and ongoing road works.
  •  Planks to be installed mid August 2025.

Round 2B

Coombadjha Road Bridges Nos 3 and 4 – Coombadjha Road, Coombadjha

  • InQuik bridge systems purchased.
  • Side tracks in place and open to traffic.
  • Piling completed and blinding slabs poured for new bridges.
  • Sites made safe for bridge delivery mid 2025.

Harness Cask Road Bridge – Harness Cask Road, Tyringham

  • Contractor mobilised to site in March 2025.
  • Temporary bridge and sidetrack installed.
  • Piles, headstocks and girders installed, preparing for
  • Bridge deck and approach causeway works late July into August.
