What’s happening?

Clarence Valley Council has secured funding from the Australian and NSW Governments to enhance the resilience of Yamba Road at Palmers Channel. The project involves raising the road level at the intersection of Yamba Road and Palmers Channel Southbank Road, aiming to reduce the frequency and duration of flooding at this location.

In addition to flood mitigation, the upgrade will improve safety through the construction of a channelised intersection, wider road shoulders, and enhanced line marking and signage for better visibility and guidance.

When is it happening?

Construction is scheduled to commence 7 October 2025, with completion expected by May 2026. Throughout this period, traffic control measures and detours will be in place to facilitate the staged delivery of the works.

Work hours include:

Monday to Friday: 7:00 am–6:00 pm

Saturday: 8:00 am–1:00 pm

What are the benefits?

  • Enhanced flood resilience of Yamba Road, aligned with the Yamba Road Flood Resilience Strategic Plan.
  • Reduced duration of road closures due to flooding for communities including Angourie, Wooloweyah, Palmers Island, and Yamba.
  • Installation of a channelised right-turn lane into Palmers Channel Southbank Road to improve traffic flow and safety.
  • Wider road shoulders to enhance safety for both vehicles and cyclists.
  • Construction of a more durable and resilient road pavement.
  • Upgraded drainage infrastructure to better manage stormwater and reduce flood impacts.
  • A wider road corridor to support future growth and improve overall road functionality.
