Clarence Valley Council, Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation and Connect You Too have celebrated the beginning of the Townsend Collective project at a launch event, which allowed surrounding neighbours to come along and learn more about the project. The project is being delivered through a partnership between the three groups, who share a commitment to creating opportunities that strengthen community wellbeing, social connection and inclusion. The Townsend Collective Masterplan will deliver a range of new spaces and facilities, including a new car park and accessible pathways, a tree-lined central path with community artwork, rooms for community hire, an amphitheatre with stage and BBQ area, a recreational precinct, and nature-based play areas, designed to bring people together and support the community for years to come. Clarence Valley Council’s General Manager, Laura Black, said the Townsend Collective will transform the Jubilee Street Reserve into a vibrant, inclusive and connected community hub for the Lower Clarence. “The Townsend Collective has been shaped through collaboration between community, Council and partner organisations. “We started community consultation in 2023, where community members identified opportunities for the Jubilee Street Reserve, shaping a place that supports Townsend and the surrounding towns. “Together with Mudyala and Connect You Too, we're creating inclusive opportunities for people of all ages to connect, learn and thrive.” As part of the partnership with the Aboriginal-owned and operated not-for-profit organisation, Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation, this project will also deliver a Bakarindi Bushfood Café, a Mudyala Community Preschool, and a Mudyala Cultural Hub. Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation Founder and CEO, Aneika Kapeen, said the project marks a significant step forward for the Clarence Valley, creating new opportunities for children, young people and families. “We are grateful to be part of such an amazing project that will allow our children and youth programs to grow and thrive for the benefit of the entire community. “This is the first of many milestones and will be the first of its kind in the Clarence Valley.“ Connect You Too is also a key partner in the project, with the new centre set to deliver essential transport and community support services, including transport and meal delivery, in direct response to identified community needs.
