Proposed public holiday dates for 2024 July Carnival

Public feedback is invited for the proposed part-day public holidays in Grafton for the 2024 July Racing Carnival.

On 24 July the NSW Government's Executive Director of Industrial Relations wrote to the Clarence Valley Council General Manager inviting applications for half or part-day local public holidays.

Council is expected to "undertake a public consultation process to assess community sentiment as well as the costs and benefits to regional businesses and local communities".
 
Applications are due by 10 November and must be accompanied by a Council resolution and feedback from community consultation.

The following part-day local public holidays have been proposed by the Clarence River Jockey Club:

RAMORNIE HANDICAP: Grafton City within the Clarence Valley Council area:

• Wednesday, 17 July 2024 from 1pm to 5pm

GRAFTON CUP: Grafton City within the Clarence Valley Council area:

• Thursday, 18 July 2024 from 1pm to 5pm

Submissions for these proposed dates are most welcome and should be forwarded to Council no later than 5pm Friday, 29 September.

The following 2024 part-day local public holidays for the Maclean Show and Jacaranda Festival were endorsed by Council on 25 October, 2022 and approved by the Minister:

MACLEAN SHOW: Applicable to Police Patrol Districts of Maclean, Yamba and Iluka, within the Clarence Valley Local Government Area:

• Wednesday, 17 April 2024 from 1pm to 5pm

JACARANDA FESTIVAL: Grafton City within the Clarence Valley Council area:

• Thursday 31 October 2024 from 1pm to 5pm

⬛ Previous submissions to proposed dates have focused on the implications for workplaces/pay rates. Council is not an industrial relations regulator. Advice in this regard is included in the DP&C’s Guidelines for Local Public Holiday and Local Event Day applications.
